Handmade & Co is a subsidiary of Overstock.com that provides a platform for local artisans all over the world. Handcrafted and fair trade certified, every product sold helps support the local community. Previously just a sub-section on Overstock’s site, we created a new name, brand, and website to set it apart as it’s own company. As the lead UX designer on this project, I worked on the web experience.
One of our main goals for the new site was to provide a more premium experience that showcased the products and told the story behind each artisan. I tailored the UI to provide a clean, high-end feel and designed the layout to put the story behind the product at the forefront.
As a full-fledged Ecommerce site inheriting hundreds of thousands of SKUs from Overstock, this project was no small undertaking. I designed close to a hundred responsive screens during the wireframing process.
One of the challenges I had to tackle was how to organize the many products and how to categorize them. I created a site map organized by taxonomy to facilitate frictionless guided navigation and improve search filtering.
Unfortunately, I was pulled away to work on another project before my work was finished on this site, but I will update this page with the final product when it goes live.
